Letter to Art 3

Dear Art 3,
If you plan on taking AP studio Art next year you better do your summer work. I spent more than a couple of hours at different instances taking pictures for the topics Mrs. Bickelhaupt gave. I also recommend taking photos or doing art work at different times that may not relate to what your doing in class. Later on your may need that art work or those photographs. Start taking "breadth" photos at the beginning of the year. You can never have too many too choose from. When dealing with Mrs. Bickelhaupt- listen to everything she has to say and don't argue with her. She has good advice. Lastly, don't treat this like a total bs class. It can be college credit!

Sincerely,
Cynthia Carson

FINAL AOC

Part 1:
The environment that we are surrounded by shapes what we choose to do outside. When it’s warm we play outside on play grounds and walk on nature trails. When it’s cold we play in the snow and sit by an outdoor fire. I chose to focus on humans enjoying their surroundings while doing activities that they enjoy; I call it their “element.” The images have young and old doing things they have fun doing. I focused on the actual surroundings and not just the people in them; it’s what makes the photo.

Part 2:

The first six images are focused on humans and people enjoying the outdoors. They are doing various things that make them happy. Each person or persons is unaware I am photographing them to create a candid image. The photos continue with the theme or the outdoors and become more specific to younger people, especially little children. Little kids love playing, they can be entertained for hours with a shovel and a pale, or with something as simple as snow. Children also have the most noticeable emotions, if they are happy you can see it in their facial emotions and body language. The last six photos are completely focused on little children and what they enjoy doing outside.

Area of Concentration photo comments

The first photo is of an old man smoking a cigar sitting in front of a famous deli in Arlington, VA called the Italian Store. The second photo is of a girl who is focused on where she is going, but seems to be happy that she is in the nice weather in the heart of the DC capital with the Washington Monument right behind her. The third photo is a composition of a man biking along the Potomac River in DC. He is wearing yellow which goes with the two signs that are surrounding him. The fourth photo is of a man who was helping clean up Roosevelt island in Washington, DC. He is completely in his own not paying attention to anything that is going on. The fifth photo is of a girl who was running around up and down the bridge to Roosevelt Island. I finally caught her in slow motion taking one of her boots off. The sixth photo is of a someone kayaking in stop motion, the red really brings out the photo. the seventh is of two people, one taking photos of me and his wife both laughing. The eight photo is of another child enjoying the snow, she is happy to be bundled up but is contemplating her next actions in the beautiful white snow. The ninth photo is of two kids on swings out of focus with the focus on a swing directly in front of them. The tenth photo is of a child with her tongue out walking to elementary school. The eleventh photo is of a girl with a pale in the sand in her 80s pink little kid jacket and purple pants.

Inside Looking Out

The way I chose to photograph this project was to make it like you were physically inside a building looking out at something. I chose to shoot in a high populated area for the "New York" look. I focused more on altered photograph, i did not change or edit either of these but they capture inside looking out with a little bit of extreme in them.
