Area of Concentration Commentary 1
The environment that we are surrounded by shapes what we choose to do outside. When it’s warm we play outside on play grounds and walk on nature trails. When it’s cold we play in the snow and sit by an outdoor fire. I chose to focus on humans enjoying their surroundings while doing activities that they enjoy; I call it their “element.” The images have young and old doing things they have fun doing. I focused on the actual surroundings and not just the people in them; it’s what makes the photo.
The first photo is of a child who is enjoying the snow. He is focused but obviously he is happy and is doing what he likes to do. The second photo is of a girl who is focused on where she is going, but seems to be happy that she is in the nice weather in the heart of the DC capital with the Washington Monument right behind her. The third photo is of another child enjoying the snow, she is happy to be bundled up but is contemplating her next actions in the beautiful white snow. The fourth photo is of a girl who was no aware I was taking the picture. She was running around up and down the bridge and I finally caught her in slow motion taking one of her boots off. The fifth photo is of an old man smoking a cigar sitting in front of a famous deli in Arlington, VA called the Italian Store. The sixth photo is of a boy who was hit by a snowball and shaking off the debris from the hit. He is obviously having fun in the snow.
